2015 Team Choo: Celebrating Our Inaugural Season

On February 1st, 2015, Choo Smith and his staff made a pivotal decision to form three AAU teams dedicated to showcasing and developing young athletes. This initiative led to the creation of the 14U girls team, the 14U boys team, and the 17U boys team.

In our inaugural season, we proudly witnessed the remarkable achievements of our players, with 8 out of the 14 athletes receiving full academic scholarships. Among them, five players secured spots in Division I programs: Daquan Bracey, Dwayne Banks II, Kani Coles, Raine McKeythan, and Jordan Jones. Additionally, three athletes were offered scholarships to Division II schools: Tremaine “Rock” Tazewell, Joey O’Dwyer, and Devon Smith, while Charles Okehie received a full scholarship to a Division III institution.

The foundation of Team Choo was built on the talents and dedication of a remarkable group of young athletes, including Daquan Bracey, Devin Smith, Kani Coles, Dwayne Banks II, Christian Chong Qui, Charles Okehie, Joey O’Dwyer, Raine McKeythan, Jesane Philander, Tremaine “Rock” Tazewell, Mike Westbrook, Keyshawn Henry, Devon Mosley, and Nick Tate.

Our 17U boys team had an outstanding inaugural season, clinching three championship titles in the Zero Gravity tournaments and making it to the elite eight in prestigious events such as the Pit Jam Fest, Spooky Nook, and the Bigfoot Hoops Las Vegas Classic. Following this successful season, Damian Chong Qui transitioned to lead Team Choo’s 17U squad.

We also established a strong core for our 14U girls team, featuring talented athletes like Morgan Pennick, Nia Cowling, Kennedy Cornick, Raquel Nicholson, and Amaya Wells.

As we reflect on our journey, we are filled with pride and gratitude for the dedication of our athletes and the support of our community. Here’s to many more seasons of excellence and growth at Team Choo!
