Choo Smith Summer Basketball Camp was born in 2006. It started with only 40 young aspiring athletes. The camp was hosted in New Town High School, a brand new high school in Owings Mills, MD.
The camp was initially 2weeks in length .This first year was completely funded by Choo Smith. The majority of the athletes came for free. Choo always said that he wanted the kids to come to the camp because of what they would learn not just because he was a Harlem Globetrotter.
Choo added some different components to the camp to bring a level of exclusivity. These athletes not only learned the fundamentals of basketball but they had life skills sessions as well. The week ended with championship games so that the young athletes could demonstrate what they learned all week. These games would later be known as “Championship Friday”. The athletes would receive championship trophies as well as awards for Best Camper, Positive Attitude and Most Improved. Choo felt that kids that exemplify these characteristics should be rewarded.
FOX 45 covered the first day of camp with a Hometown Hot Spot. This would become a staple for the camp in the years to come.

In order to elevate your basketball game to the next level your diet and exercise are important. Players that make it to the next level go beyond the training given during team practice.
